SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray used to treat certain adults with depression. It is FDA-approved for adults with treatment-resistant depression and may be used either by itself or with an oral antidepressant. It is also approved, together with an oral antidepressant, for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder who have acute suicidal thoughts or behavior.

SPRAVATO may be an option for adults with treatment-resistant depression, generally meaning depression that has not improved adequately after at least two antidepressant treatments. Yes. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy or other therapeutic support may be incorporated when clinically appropriate and desired by the patient. You may work with a SeVA therapist, continue working with your existing therapist, or both. For example, some clients see a SeVA therapist for KAP while continuing to work with their existing therapist.

For treatment-resistant depression, the usual FDA-recommended schedule begins with twice-weekly treatments for four weeks. Treatment is typically reduced to once weekly during weeks 5–8 and then to once weekly or every other week beginning at week 9. Long-term frequency is individualized to the least frequent schedule needed to maintain benefit.

Experiences vary. Some people feel relaxed, sleepy, dizzy, disconnected, or experience temporary changes in perception during treatment. Dissociation, dizziness, nausea, sedation, vertigo, and increases in blood pressure are among the recognized side effects. These effects are one reason SPRAVATO is given only in certified healthcare settings with monitoring afterward.
